Meet Your Director of Student Success: Phillip Migyanko

Phillip Migyanko: Director of Student Success

I’m a career coach and the Director of Student Success which means it’s my mission to ensure all of our students are the most successful and each of them has tools to start doing work they love

Prior to joining HYTC, I grew up in a family owned business in the waste management industry– so I picked up trash literally. After graduating college, I completed my tenure working multiple Human Resources and Recruiting jobs in the manufacturing and technology spaces.  This lead to working for one of the leading jobs boards in the United States in which I designed recruitment marketing campaigns from Fortune 500 companies. Long story short, I’ve touched almost every part of the recruitment and hiring process and have an understanding of what it takes to find work in the modern age.

It was in these roles that I discovered my love of coaching and what makes other people successful in their careers.  After traveling the world for a bit, I landed in the beautiful (and weird) Austin, Texas which I now call home. During my time here,  I have done extensive reading and studying into what makes fulfilling careers and help coach clients through my own career coaching company which I started in 2017.

Favorite Book:

Start With Why by Simon Sinek in one of my all time favorite personal development books.  Although it was tough to pick a favorite! If you’ve haven’t read this book (or watched his amazing TED Talk) stop what you’re doing and pick it up now!  In Simon’s groundbreaking movement he discusses living in a world where people are inspired to wake up everyday and do work that is fulfilling to them. Furthermore, he challenges us to look beyond how we do our work and ask why we do what we do.  By drawing upon great figures in history he is able to point to the importance of starting with your why (why you do what you do) to do great work. This book was personally life changing for me because it helped set myself up for success.

Fun Fact 1:

I have a twin brother.  No we’re not identical– we’re fraternal.  The best way to describe is we’re like Oscar and Felix from The Odd Couple.  Can you guess which one I am? Hint – I’m Felix.

Why you work with HTYC:

I love working with HTYC because I really believe in their values and mission in which we lean into our curiosities and we intentionally get outside our comfort zones and push ourselves and everyone we interact with for growth (have fun doing it)! Also, everyone here is really fun to work because we honor the experience of helping others find and do work they love.
